A 'No-Frills' driving tour around New Mexico
for Vintage (pre-1980) British Motorcars

Six days of scenic cruising
from the Desert to the Crossroads

What -- A 'No-Frills' driving tour into New Mexico.  Route will cover 1012 miles over the course of six days (four days driving and two staying put).

When -- Tuesday, April 22nd is the start date for the tour. Return is Saturday, April 26th or Sunday, April 27th.

Where -- We'll leave from Triple T Truck Stop at 9:00am.

If you are late we don't wait.  Drivers meeting at 8:50am. Start at 9:00am.  If you arrive at 9:05 we will be gone.

Our lunch stop will be in Douglas at the historic Gadsden Hotel.  After lunch we'll drive via 2-lane blacktop into New Mexico.  Final stop on Day 1 is Deming, New Mexico -- total of 274 miles.

Now is the time to make your room reservations.  Suggested lodging for Tuesday, April 22 is La Quinta in Deming. The phone number for reservations is  575-546-0600.  Mention La Carrera Primavera for the $65 rate (includes a hot breakfast).

Day 2 will have us heading south and east into a piece of Texas, driving the Woodrow Bean Transmountain Road across the northern reaches of El Paso, then back into New Mexico to our overnight stop in a mountaintop lodge in Cloudcroft -- total of 210 miles.

Lodging for the evening (Wednesday, April 23) is at 9000' in The Lodge Resort.  Phone number for reservations is 866-595-6343.  Mention 'City Ledger 2787TH' to get the special $99 rate.  If that doesn't ring a bell, mention 'La Carrera Primavera' or ask for Mandy. All the rooms they are holding for us should be in the main building but please confirm that is where your room will be when you reserve.  No need to make a dinner reservation as we have a group reservation for that evening at Rebecca's.

Day 3 will be a selection of twisty mountain roads in the Lincoln National Forest with a lunch stop in Ruidoso.  We'll conclude with a drive from Alamogordo to Las Cruces where we will spend the next 3 days at the 22nd Annual British Car Days hosted by the British Motorcar Club of Southern New Mexico -- total of 263 miles.

If you plan to participate you should register for the event.  Some may choose to only participate in the Friday drive and show, other may stay for the full 3 days including dinner on Saturday and a brunch on Sunday morning, after which they will return to Tucson.

You may want to have an Arizona map, snack items and soft drinks or water.  A cell phone and AAA card never come amiss if you have them.

If you are unfamiliar with 'no-frills' touring you might take a look at this website for comments about a tour that was around for awhile.  In particular, note the 'Insider Information' offered.

An important note: Joe Lucas needs to know if you are planning to attend.  This is still a low-key, disorganized event but as a practical matter having some idea who and how many will be there makes it easier to plan meal stops, gas stops, etc.  So if you are planning to attend please drop Joe an email at: joe.arizona.roadrunner@gmail.com.

Joe is on Facebook.  Facebook members can find Joe here: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001321863458

The other reason for asking to be notified of your intent to drive is that La Carrera Primavera will be limited to 10 cars to assure that our casual approach to driving, parking and dining doesn't become a logistic nightmare.

No other advance arrangements have been made. This is a no-frills event. You are responsible for your own room arrangements, your own dining arrangements and your own car.

¡Vamos amigos!
